Night Vision Flying
Flying at night using night vision devices is one of the most challenging and potentially disorientating challenges known to military pilots. The view through an NVG can be very confusing compared with the real world and scanning the instruments is more difficult than normal.
Pilots need training in the use of their night vision devices, in how they should fly at night and what they can expect to see under different conditions of illumination, weather and visibility. Various terrains will produce different sensations affecting a pilot's orientation.
